Microsoft chooses Penningtons to support new accelerator programme for UK startups

Penningtons Solicitors LLP’s technology group has been chosen by Microsoft Ventures as the legal adviser for a new 12 week accelerator programme for high-potential UK technology and gaming startups. Based in Shoreditch, London, the programme is designed to help startups striving to break new ground in cloud, internet, mobile or gaming to grow their business through a combination of 1:1 mentoring, technical assistance and access to resources.

Startups will be given the opportunity to work with a variety of established businesses and organisations including the London Business School, KPMG, Ventures in Motion Ltd, Train2Game, Lift London, Lionhead Studios and Penningtons.

At the culmination of the programme, the startups will present their ideas at a demo day to a panel of venture capitalists, investors and mentors within the technology community. Successful candidates may attain funding, a licensing deal or the option to join another accelerator, incubator or, potentially, one of Microsoft’s gaming studios.

Of the 119 companies that have already participated in the global Microsoft Ventures programme to date, 85% received funding on demo day or within six months. The full London accelerator is open to startups at seed stage which are focused on pursuing their vision full-time. Entrants must also be a member of BizSpark, a free and easy-to-join service which gives eligible start-ups three years of free software, support and visibility.
