Penningtons achieves new and improved rankings in Chambers UK 2013

Posted: 06/11/2012

Just 18 months after Penningtons Solicitors LLP merged with Dawsons Solicitors and Wedlake Saint, the combined strength and breadth of the enlarged firm is reflected in the firm’s listings by Chambers Guide to the UK Legal Profession, one of the definitive guides to UK law firms and lawyers.

In the newly published 2013 edition, 20 of the firm’s practice areas are recognised for their expertise together with 32 lawyers who are nominated as leading individuals in their specialist areas. Nine of the firm’s practice areas – clinical negligence, employment, immigration, partnership, personal injury, private client, professional discipline, social housing, and tax - have achieved a band 1 or band 2 ranking.

New entries reflecting the mergers and lateral hires include the London social housing team led by Andrew Casstles; road transport led by David Niven; the family/matrimonial team led by Julia Thackray; and the Cambridge employment team.

Of the 32 lawyers recognised for their individual excellence, Katrina Wingfield (professional discipline) is recognised as a ‘star individual’ while band 1 leaders include Geoffrey Hudson (professional discipline), Philippa Luscombe and Alison Appelboam-Meadows (clinical negligence), Hilary Aldred (employment), Stephen Ralph (partnership), Linda Storey (social housing) and Sarah Cardew (tax).

Rankings are based purely on merit and reflect feedback passed to the directory by a broad cross-section of both clients and lawyers within competitor practices. As part of their analysis in the last 12 months, researchers from Chambers conducted more than 40,000 interviews.

Penningtons’ chief executive David Raine is delighted with this year’s ‘new and improved’ rankings: “It is very encouraging that our growth strategies of merger and lateral hires have helped us to raise our game across a number of practice and sector groups.”
