Concerns over patient safety at Sherwood Forest NHS Trust

Posted: 08/10/2012

Concerns have been raised over the care that women have received from the breast cancer services run by the Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, encompassing King’s Mill Hospital in Sutton in Ashfield and Newark Hospital.

Twenty-seven women have been recalled since Friday due to a technical issue leading to ‘faulty tissue tests’ from patients.

Sadly, we at Penningtons all too often see investigations that are performed incorrectly either at the outset of care or during treatment. These errors can have a catastrophic impact on a patient, particularly when they involve cancer patients. It is concerning to see that the hospital is, as yet, unaware whether or not any patients may have died due to these errors.

We hope that a thorough investigation into how these failures occurred will be forthcoming and that the relatives of those who may have passed away due to these errors will be notified of the problems with their care.
