Penningtons' immigration team publishes response to Government's student migration proposals

Posted: 31/01/2011

The immigration team at Penningtons Solicitors LLP has published its response to the proposed changes to the student immigration system, put forward by the Government. The team acts for a large number of education providers including schools, universities and private colleges. It also acts for adult students and families based abroad who are planning to have their children educated in the UK.

The response, which is referred to in today's Times Higher Education Supplement, was put together after seeking opinions from a large number of the team's clients on the Government proposals and also from listening and taking part in discussions at key meetings on the subject organised by the Law Society, the Institute of Public Policy Research (IPPR), the Immigration Law Practitioners' Association (ILPA), the UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA), London First and the British Chamber of Commerce. The response highlights the widespread concern amongst those we spoke to, particularly regarding the detrimental effect the proposals could have on the UK economy and the country's reputation as a world-class centre of learning for students across the globe.
