Penningtons goes back to school with the City Solicitors' Educational Trust

A team from Penningtons has taken an active part in the 2011 summer school run by the City Solicitors' Educational Trust (CSET), an organisation which supports students who are interested in exploring the career paths open to them in the legal profession.

Penningtons is one of 15 firms to sponsor CSET which assists undergraduates at the non-Russell Group universities who may not benefit from the same careers advice and opportunities as their contemporaries from the 'traditional' top universities. Since its establishment in 1989, grants totalling more than £8 million have been made to over 60 institutions.

This year's summer school took place at Queen Mary, University of London, one of the largest colleges in the capital. Over 100 students from 41 different universities throughout the UK attended.

Staff from Penningtons - ranging from trainee solicitors to partners - took part in the initiative, offering teaching assistance for a range of skills sessions and sending representatives to the evening social networking events. The students were also invited to visit Penningtons' City office where they met the learning and development team and a group of current trainees.

Penningtons' learning and development manager Andrea Law believes the summer school has been enormously beneficial. Commenting on the week's activities, she said: "From an initial look at the feedback, the students have been inspired by the representatives they met and the many options available to them in the legal sector."
