Personal injury team supports Child Safety Week to prevent child accidents

Child Safety Week is an annual campaign run by the Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT) to raise awareness of the risks of child accidents and how they can be prevented. The trust provides a range of resources to help practitioners run local activities and events and promote safety messages in a fun and engaging way.
initially set up 40 years ago by two consultant paediatricians, CAPT works with the NHS and public sector, companies, trade associations and standards bodies. Many organisations take part in its initiatives which focus on various aspects of child safety.

This year Child Safety Week runs from Monday 2 to Sunday 8 June and the charity has chosen the theme ‘Safety is for sharing’, focusing on communicating expert advice widely to help families, carers and educators protect children from preventable harm. The resources available to support the campaign include fact sheets on common accident risks, posters and flyers for display, videos and social media packs and session plans for workshops.

Philippa Luscombe, partner in the personal injury team at Penningtons Manches Cooper, said: “Accidents involving children are always upsetting and can often have devastating consequences – particularly those involving road accidents and burn. Anything that focuses the minds of both adults and children on key safety messages has got to be positive and it is great to see the Child Accident Prevention Trust doing such good work again this year.

“Hopefully many organisations will get involved and the week will have a range of positive outcomes.”
