Penningtons Manches Cooper contributes to Legal 500’s Fintech Country Comparative Guide

Penningtons Manches Cooper’s specialist fintech team has contributed to the latest edition of Legal 500’s Fintech Country Comparative Guide. Now in its eighth edition, the guide provides a pragmatic overview of fintech law as it varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, and is accompanied by in-depth analysis of some of the key issues affecting the sector.

Partners Charlotte Hill (dispute resolution), Sarah Kenshall (IP, IT and commercial) and Pat Saini (immigration) as well as senior consultant Teja Picton-Howell (financial services regulation) were invited by Legal 500 to write the UK chapter, one of 19 chapters offering a country-specific synopsis of fintech laws and regulations from across the world.

Among the topics covered in their detailed Q&A feature, comprising 28 questions in total, were the evolution of regulatory boundaries with regards to digital assets, AI, and consumer protection; data privacy, cybersecurity and operational resilience for fintechs; the steps cryptocurrency and blockchain companies need to take for regulatory audits and inquiries; and emerging geopolitical or sanctions-related risks for fintech operations in cross-border markets.

Also in focus are the role of immigration rules in the speed and strategy of market entry, how fintechs can protect their intellectual property, the obligations for fintechs using AI, and which reforms could hold the greatest potential to accelerate innovation.
