Latest news & insights:

Renewable energy and other clean technologies are essential to efforts to reach net zero emissions. At Penningtons Manches Cooper, we have strength in depth in these fast-changing areas, drawing on expertise from our construction, real estate, commercial, intellectual property, finance and regulatory teams to deliver specialist advice and support to clients of all sizes.

We help businesses understand and manage the challenges associated with a variety of projects, enabling them to structure and develop tailored procurement strategies to meet their discrete needs. Members of our renewable energy and cleantech group offer a pragmatic approach combined with their detailed knowledge of the sector. We also have a strong international capability, with a considerable track record in overseas and cross border projects.

Our team has a broad spectrum of recent experience, with instructions ranging from recycling, waste treatment and EFW plants and anaerobic digesters, to wind, solar, battery storage, reserve power and marine energy projects, smart meters and advice on feed-in tariffs. Our portfolio extends to some of the largest new technology projects in the UK.

Reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2050 as well as other environmental challenges such as the ‘war on plastic’ are increasingly important to our clients and the sectors we work in. Sustainability cannot – and should not – be thought of as a niche area of business or legal work: it impacts all of us. In addition to working with clients to deliver projects across a range of clean energy technologies, our lawyers continue to lead discussions on topics such as smart-buildings and energy efficiency, future heat networks regulation and options for new business by combining heat and power for tenants.

From innovative tech entrepreneurs and individuals wanting to reflect their own environmental commitments to major utilities and real estate sector clients working to increase their energy efficiency and corporations looking at long-term risks and business trends, sustainability presents opportunities as well as risks. We are committed to helping clients seize these opportunities and navigate change through the resources available across our full service offering. Simultaneously, we are taking our own steps to become carbon neutral and ensure that our business is environmentally sustainable.

We offer expert advice on:

  • financing, funding, investments and joint ventures
  • spin-out projects and technology transfer
  • commercial agreements, including R&D, collaborations and joint ventures, supply, manufacturing and licensing
