Seven figure settlement for cyclist after life-altering road accident

We were approached by the father of a man who had been involved in a significant road accident when a van drove into the rear of his bicycle. At the time we were instructed, the son was still in hospital but it was already clear that he had suffered a significant spinal cord injury and was likely to be paraplegic.

Several firms were ‘interviewed’ but we were selected to act on the injured man’s behalf. We were able to secure a relatively early admission of liability and then get actively involved in his rehabilitation. He was unable to return to his previous home as it could not accommodate a wheelchair and we were involved in sourcing a suitable rental property as well as a wheelchair and accessible vehicle.

A case manager and therapy package were put in place and through the litigation we were able to explore some of the latest technology to assist our client in being able to stand and walk a few steps. The impact of his injuries was significant and we needed to assess potential issues with fertility and the impact of his injuries on his ability to maintain and progress his high level career.

Court proceedings were issued and we went some way through a court timetable before the parties met at a settlement meeting and agreed a substantial multi-million pound award.
