Failure to investigate and treat testicular torsions properly

Testicular torsion is a relatively rare occurrence, but when it arises it requires treatment within a very short timescale or the testicle is at risk of being lost.

Testicular torsion is almost impossible to diagnose by examination alone and ultrasound or even exploratory surgery are needed to confirm or exclude the diagnosis.

We have acted in a number of cases where clients have attended at hospital with signs and symptoms consistent with testicular torsion that should have led to emergency treatment, but where instead the treating doctors have either ignored or excluded torsion without proper investigation, resulting in the loss of testicles that could otherwise have been saved.
