Comprehensive settlement for mother following head-on crash with drunk driver
We have represented a woman who was injured when her vehicle was hit head-on by a drunk driver while she was taking her children home.
She suffered a wide range of orthopaedic injuries but the force of the impact also caused vertebral artery dissection resulting in a stroke. She has been left with a multitude of ongoing issues that severely limit her day to day activity – pain, fatigue, partial loss of vision, reduced cognitive function and anxiety.
Liability was admitted relatively early on but the defendant’s insurers reserved their position as to the extent of the injuries caused. We secured interim funding to appoint a case manager and put in place a support worker and rehabilitation team.
Due to our client’s multiple injuries and their wide-ranging impact, a significant number of expert reports were required including neurology, ophthalmology, neuropsychology, neuropsychiatry, orthopaedic, physiotherapy, care, pension loss and accommodation so it took some time to get to the stage where we could quantify the claim.
Court proceedings were issued and we progressed most of the way through a court timetable before the parties had a settlement meeting where a multi-million pound award was agreed.
