Yong Yee Lee

Associate

Yong Yee is an associate in the Singapore office. As a member of the marine, trade and aviation team, he works on matters across a wide variety of wet and dry shipping and shipping-related disputes. Yong Yee also has experience of advising on commercial and international trade disputes, and non-contentious shipping matters.

He focuses primarily on wet and dry shipping and shipping-related disputes, and has experience of advising shipowners, insurers, charterers and operators in the aftermath of maritime casualties, such as collisions and consequential disputes involving salvage, oil pollution, general average and limitation. Yong Yee’s experience of dry shipping matters includes charterparty claims, cargo claims, bill of lading claims, breach of contract, and commodities/international trade disputes.

I focus on advising clients on wet and dry shipping and shipping-related disputes, which remains my primary area of interest. I strive to enhance my knowledge and skills in this domain and to deliver to clients commercially focused solutions notwithstanding the complexity of the problem.

He has also advised clients on matters involving contractual and shareholder disputes, banking disputes, and insolvency and restructuring issues. Yong Yee has represented clients in the Singapore courts for criminal matters involving a shipping element. On the non-contentious side, he has experience advising both buyers and sellers on ship sale and purchase transactions. He has considerable experience of handling Singapore/English court proceedings, and arbitration proceedings in Singapore, Hong Kong and London pursuant to the various arbitral rules, as well as mediation. Prior to joining the firm in 2024, Yong Yee worked at a local shipping law firm, and has gained experience appearing before all levels of the Singapore courts.
