Philippa heads the personal injury and medical negligence team. She is recognised as a leader in the field and has clients nationwide. Philippa is instrumental in the development and maintenance of the reputation and profile of this highly regarded team.

She has particular expertise in complex brain injury and fatal claims arising out of both personal injury and medical negligence. Philippa has extensive experience of pursuing complex and contested claims with an excellent track record of achieving good results for her clients. She has been integral in setting up many rehabilitation and care packages for clients and securing multi million pound settlements. In the medical negligence field, Philippa also has considerable experience in cases involving delayed diagnosis of cancer and delayed diagnosis of cauda equina syndrome.

She has been a contributing editor for Butterworth’s Personal Injury Litigation Service and regularly provides comment in legal journals and the press on current issues relating to personal injury and clinical negligence.

Admissions of liability

Representing a client who had suffered catastrophic brain injuries during a neuroradiology procedure, leaving him severely disabled and dependant on others for care. Liability was disputed for years but close to trial we secured full admissions.

Support for a young adult

Acting for a 20-year-old client who had suffered a severe brain injury in a head-on road collision, securing damages to put in place a rehabilitation and support package.

Failings in care leading to death

Acting for a lady whose husband died after suffering a head injury and bleed on the brain, which was not identified at hospital and led to his death, obtaining acknowledgements that the hospital failed and that lessons had been learned

Patient with terminal cancer

Representing a young man who had terminal lung cancer where a CT scan had been wrongly interpreted leading to delayed diagnosis, securing substantial damages to ensure financial provision for his partner.

Negligent medication overdose

Securing damages for a young girl who was admitted to hospital with a significant respiratory infection, but multiple failures in her care included a negligent administration of a huge dose of a toxic medication that caused cardiac arrest and collapse with long-term effects.

Paramedic care

Acting for a client who had hit his head on New Year’s Eve, following which the paramedic put his condition down to alcohol; by the time he collapsed some hours later he had suffered significant brain damage.

Acting for a client with a benign brain tumour that ultimately became malignant with a terminal prognosis, following which he did not receive sufficient advice that would have led him to choose surgical intervention and a better prognosis.
