Mark’s team acts as the panel solicitors for various UK travel insurers and Lloyds syndicates, receiving instructions to act on behalf of policyholders for claims arising from accidents abroad. As a trusted adviser to the travel insurance industry, he also assists with the subrogated recovery of insurer’s outlay and advises on policy wordings and other contentious issues.

In his role as lead partner of the firm’s insurance and reinsurance group, Mark works closely with colleagues in the Paris, Madrid, Piraeus, and Singapore offices on a range of disputes. A fluent Spanish speaker, he has represented Spanish nationals and companies both in Spain and in the UK and is a regular commentator in the travel and legal press. He also delivers in-house legal training to insurers and Lloyds syndicates on travel litigation issues and private international law.

High-value award after motorway accident

Acting on behalf of a minor and his family after he sustained catastrophic and life-changing injuries in a road traffic accident on a French motorway. Continued rehabilitation has enabled him to make remarkable progress.

Amputation following holiday excursion

Securing an out of court settlement for a nurse who underwent a traumatic amputation of her arm following a road accident in Cuba while she was on a holiday excursion. The case had been rejected by other solicitors due to poor prospects.

Substantial settlement for English family

Representing an English family involved in an extremely serious road traffic accident and securing judgment and substantial damages against the Portuguese insurers in the English High Court.

Catastrophic injuries in hotel pool incident

Recovering damages in excess of €545,000 at a trial in Spain and then additional damages of approximately €500,000 on appeal for catastrophic injuries caused to a young girl following a near drowning in a hotel swimming pool.

Liability dispute after serious road collision

Obtaining a full liability ruling and multi-million pound damages for a motorcyclist who suffered severe injuries after a collision with a car while holidaying in the Black Forest. The car driver and German police had questioned responsibility for the accident.
