Associate

Josh is an associate in the London private client team. He advises high net worth individuals, families, trustees and other advisors on a full range of private client matters.

In particular, Josh has experience in providing international tax and cross-border estate planning and succession advice for clients with overseas assets and offshore trust structures, as well as for clients who are looking to move to or from the UK. He works with a number of jurisdictions including the US, the UAE and numerous European jurisdictions. He also advises on wills, trusts, succession planning, administration of estates and lasting powers of attorney.

I work with clients to identify their individual needs and advise on practical solutions to achieve the best results for them and their families. My aim is to fully understand each client’s goals in order to guide them and provide a bespoke service that is relevant and easily digestible.

Josh Fowler, Associate

Josh joined Penningtons Manches Cooper in 2024, having previously trained and worked in another award-winning City private client team for a number of years. He completed his law degree at the University of Bristol and his LPC at the University of Law in Guildford. Josh is a member of STEP, the world’s leading organization for private wealth professionals, and is currently studying for the STEP diploma with a focus on international tax and high net worth individuals.

Reviewing a client’s historic domicile position and advising on the application of the statutory residence test and the availability of the remittance basis of taxation as part of pre-arrival tax planning.

Offshore trustees

Providing advice to offshore trustees with UK resident beneficiaries on the tax implications of making distributions, as well as their ongoing duties as trustees.

Divorce financial agreements

Considering the terms of a draft financial agreement for international high net worth divorcing clients and advising on the UK tax consequences.

Overseas trusts

Analysing the terms of a US trust and preparing an opinion of how it would be treated by the UK tax system.

Estate planning

Preparing lasting powers of attorney and bespoke wills, including trusts, for LGBTQ+ clients and advising on their estate planning options to ensure their succession wishes are fulfilled.

Succession planning

Providing advice to an entrepreneur as to the use of trusts or a family investment company ahead of the sale of their company to maximise tax efficient succession planning for their descendants.
