Jamil Sanaullah

Senior associate

Jamil is a senior associate in the construction advisory and dispute resolution team. He has experience in a broad range of construction and dispute resolution matters and works with a range of clients including private individuals, institutional investors, national and regional developers, international developers, local authorities and universities.

Jamil has particular expertise in multi-party Technology and Construction Court litigation spanning pre-action, pleadings, disclosure, evidential and pre-trial stages, as well as significant experience in adjudication, mediation and pre-action matters. He has a strong grounding in many construction disputes including defects, payment, delay, professional negligence, insurance and party wall matters. He has had frequent engagement with fire safety, water ingress and structural defects matters under the Defective Premises Act and the Building Safety Act. Commercially minded, Jamil is often involved in assisting clients with dispute avoidance relating to communications with public bodies, residents and other stakeholders, and is involved in the drafting of remediation agreements and licences for remediation works.

Jamil studied the prestigious MSc in Construction Law and Dispute Resolution at Kings College London and is preparing his dissertation on English law remedies on defective premises. He is a confident public speaker who has delivered presentations for clients and the firm. Jamil co-chairs the social impact committee for the firm’s London office and is involved in arranging fundraising and volunteering events for a number of charities.

Acting for an institutional developer in multi-party Technology and Construction Court litigation, successfully defending and settling a multi-million pound claim for termination losses and then successfully settling a follow-on claim against the relevant construction team.

Acting for an SME developer in pursuing a fire safety and water ingress claim against construction professionals, insurers and associated companies under the Building Safety Act and ancillary work with public bodies, residents and other stakeholders.
