Grant Eldred

Partner

Grant is a partner in the banking and finance team and heads the financial services sector teams. He specialises in finance law including bilateral and syndicated secured and unsecured lending, trade and commodity finance, supply chain finance and banking regulation and compliance.

He also has specific expertise in ship, yacht finance and building contracts as well as structured finance work. Grant has particular expertise in advising the London branches of overseas banks on a broad range of their operational, regulatory and transactional requirements. Het has been instrumental in advising these financial institutions on complex trade finance, receivables finance and structured commodities transactions.

I ensure that client needs are addressed promptly with practical, responsive, and commercial advice. My focus is always on delivering tailored solutions, particularly in complex trade and marine finance matters, to help clients navigate and overcome the operational and transactional challenges they face.

Grant has made a significant contribution to the recent Guide to Structured Letters of Credit, a comprehensive publication addressing this evolving aspect of trade finance. He is also involved with several trade associations, including the International Trade & Forfaiting Association and Minor Metal Trade Association, as well as having been a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Shipwrights for many years. Grant became a partner in 1994 having joined the firm as a trainee solicitor in 1989.

Acting for a Saudi Arabia investment group in relation to a CHF 190 million Murabaha margin financing agreement.

Acting for the London branch of a major Chinese bank with the negotiation and documentation of international trade finance facilities ranging from US$10 million to US$350 million.

Invoice discounting facilities

Advising and documenting a leading Arab banking group in relation to US$350 million invoice discounting facilities to a major European manufacturer.

Recovery of superyacht portfolio

Advising a private bank in relation to the recovery of a distressed superyacht portfolio.

Fish farm vessel

Advising on a US$50 million contract for the new build of an innovative semi-submersible fish farm vessel in China.

New build cruise ship

Acting on a €270 million newbuild cruise ship with Italian Yard and sistership options.

Borrowing base facility

Advising a major UAE bank on providing a $100 million borrowing base facility to fund the European operations of an international titanium dioxide manufacturer.

Sustainable fuel supply systems

Advising international joint venture partners in relation to the effective delivery of sustainable ammonia fuel supply systems in the maritime sector.

Ship conversion

Acting on the purchase and conversion of a 35,000 GRT container ship to liquid commodity carrier, including advising throughout the purchase, trans-shipment conversion and positioning ready for delivery of the vessel for a Brazilian commodities company.

Borrowing base facility

Advising a major UAE bank on providing a $100 million borrowing base facility to fund the European operations of an international titanium dioxide manufacturer.
