Gareth Jones

Associate

Gareth is an associate specialising in reputation management and privacy law. He acts for a broad range of clients including private individuals (particularly high-net-worth individuals), corporate entities, charities, staff associations and clients in the education sector – acting for both claimants and defendants.

He advises on all aspects of reputation protection and media law, including defamation, privacy, breach of confidence, harassment and data protection. Gareth also assists clients in relation to forthcoming publications (both in print and broadcast), often on an urgent basis. He has recently carved out expertise in challenging decisions which have impacted the reputations of clients via judicial review – particularly in relation to police officers who have had vetting applications refused. Gareth is recognised as a ‘key lawyer’ in the Legal 500 for reputation management, and is a member of The Society of Media Lawyers. The society comprises a number of leading media lawyers who wish to add fairness and balance, as well as their perspective, to the discussions surrounding media law in order to try and ensure that these are properly informed by the facts.

When a reputation or privacy crisis hits, it’s important to get to the heart of a client’s concerns and formulate the best strategy for navigating a way forward. My aim is to provide realistic, commercial and pragmatic advice to clients – working together to achieve the best possible outcome on the matters most important to them.
