Commercial dispute resolution
Chris is a senior associate in the commercial dispute resolution team, with extensive experience of acting in complex financial disputes, often with an international element. He regularly works closely with the private client and family teams where civil litigation input is required.
Described by clients as ‘pragmatic’ and ‘commercial, with good judgement’, his focus is always on achieving a positive outcome at reasonable cost. Recent examples of his work include the successful defence of a $60 million arbitration claim (with 95% of the client’s costs paid by the claimant); negotiating favourable settlement terms for a client in relation to a multi-million pound warranty claim; and recovery in full of two substantial loans (plus costs and interest) where previous attempts at recovery had failed. He is part of the Penningtons Manches Cooper team challenging a refusal by HMRC to repay Insurance Premium Tax (IPT).
I am a member of the commercial litigation team, working on complex (frequently international) disputes. I have extensive experience of acting on a diverse range of commercial disputes for individuals and businesses, often with a connection to family or matrimonial disputes.
Chris read modern languages at St Peter’s College, Oxford University, and is a trustee of the St Peter’s College Foundation, which provides funding for student welfare, with a particular focus on funding schemes to support diversity. Prior to becoming a solicitor, Chris was a staff reporter on the Evening Standard, where he specialised in investigative reporting, covering the Damilola Taylor inquiry, and the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, and carried out a number of undercover investigations.
