Fortitude Law clients receive dedicated support from specialist vaginal mesh solicitors

Posted: 07/06/2023

The specialist team of vaginal mesh claims solicitors at Penningtons Manches Cooper is handling a large volume of enquiries from existing mesh clients of Fortitude Law, a Haywards Heath based practice led by partner Darren Hanison, which was closed down by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) on 18 May 2023.

As a result of the SRA’s intervention, Fortitude Law can no longer provide legal representation and its clients must find a new solicitor. All files that were stored at the firm’s office have been removed and are now held by the SRA. Lester Aldridge has been appointed as intervention agent to manage the administration of the closure.

Lawyers at Penningtons Manches Cooper are in the process of ascertaining a streamlined method for transferring files from Lester Aldridge. The firm’s mesh claims specialists have been handling cases involving mesh implants since 2016 and have obtained a substantial number of successful settlements - both pre and post court proceedings – on behalf of patients who received negligent treatment and surgery in this field.

They are experienced at dealing with all types of mesh claims, including those involving rectopexy mesh, and are able to offer clients of Fortitude Law an initial, free of charge consultation to discuss the options available to them. In addition to mesh claims, the primary area of focus for Fortitude Law, Penningtons Manches Cooper is able to handle a broad spectrum of other clinical negligence enquiries. Its expertise is recognised by both Chambers UK and The Legal 500, the leading guides to law firms in this country.

Elise Bevan, a partner in Penningtons Manches Cooper’s clinical negligence team with a specialist interest in mesh claims, previously led an informal group action against a Home Counties-based NHS trust relating to vaginal mesh cases and unnecessary urogynaecology surgery. Commenting on the recent SRA intervention, she said: “We recognise that this is an extremely stressful time for clients of Fortitude Law and are aware that many have had a difficult experience and feel abandoned. Our aim is to provide a comprehensive package of support and specialist advice and to minimise the stress involved in transferring claims.”
