Permanent disability after hospital roof fall

Our personal injury team acted on behalf of a man who sustained life-changing injuries after falling from a hospital roof while in a confused and agitated state. He had attended the hospital’s Accident & Emergency department in a vulnerable condition, displaying signs of confusion and distress. Despite this, he was left unsupervised and without appropriate safeguards in place.

In a tragic sequence of events, our client attempted to leave the A&E department. Due to serious failings in the hospital’s duty of care – including inadequate supervision, failure to secure exit doors properly, and ineffective safety barriers – he was able to access a flat roof area. From there, he fell, suffering catastrophic injuries.

As a result of the fall, our client was left permanently disabled and now requires 24-hour care in a residential setting. He has been unable to return to independent living. Our occupiers’ liability claim specialists successfully secured substantial damages to ensure he receives the long-term care and support he needs.
