Profile

Jamil is a senior associate in the London-based construction and infrastructure team, specialising in construction and related insurance disputes.

He has previously acted on a variety of claims that have arisen under construction contracts, including those with respect to professional negligence matters relating to consultants; termination, defects, delay and payment claims; and construction issues arising out of associated sale and lease agreements. In addition, Jamil has experience of various forms of dispute resolution including TCC litigation, adjudication and pre-action disputes. He has also worked on transactional construction matters with a particular focus on various forms of the JCT, consultant appointments, collateral warranties and other industry standard construction documentation.

Having acted for and against large and small contractors, developers, consultants and private individuals in a variety of sectors including rocket engine test facilities, residential developments, student accommodation, high value properties and logistics centres, Jamil has developed commercial awareness specific to a range of different client needs. He maintains a strong interest in the latest construction cases and has written articles on such matters and developments relating to electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Jamil has also previously worked in international and client offices.

Recent work highlights

  • Acting for the owner of a rocket engine test facility in defending a high value claim from a proposed tenant and making an additional claim against the contractor and professional team.
  • Acting for a developer with respect to a water ingress and fire safety claim against their architect and cladding contractor.
  • Assisting a contractor in a CVA in successfully obtaining an adjudication award against a high profile client in respect of its final account.
  • Assisting a freeholder on the defence of enforcement proceedings with respect to a ‘smash and grab’ adjudication relating to a residential property.
  • Providing advice to developers and contractors on termination rights and consequences under construction contracts and under common law.
