Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II 1926 - 2022

Portrait of Rachel Lobo

Rachel is a paralegal in the commercial dispute resolution team in London, acting on high value, complex, multi-party actions against solicitors and other professionals, in a team that the 2023 edition of The Legal 500 described as ‘extremely competent’.

She recently assisted senior members of the team in bringing a claim for a number of prospective purchasers of student accommodation, which was settled at mediation and produced a significant payout for the clients.

Having joined Penningtons Manches Cooper from another leading law firm in 2022, Rachel has a variety of legal work experience, as well as being LLB, LPC and LLM-qualified. Additionally, she is heavily involved in the firm’s Pennclusion committees, including being co-chair of the race and faith committee, which she runs with the aim of ensuring the firm attracts and retains diverse talent, and is an inclusive environment.

Recent work highlights

  • Assisting the group actions team in bringing claims for professional negligence on behalf of claimants against their solicitors, in relation to failed investments in student accommodation and hotel schemes.
  • Worked on high-profile and complex group actions, including the Mercedes-Benz NOx emissions and Hargreaves Lansdown (Woodford) claims.
  • Contributed to research by Commons Law Community Interest Centre on the requirement for defendants to state their nationality in court during legal proceedings, which helped lead to the U-turn decision by the Ministry of Justice to remove the requirement.
