Louise is a senior associate in the private client and tax team in Oxford. She qualified in 2005 and joined Penningtons Manches Cooper from another leading UK law firm in 2017. Louise advises on a variety of private client matters and is recognised in particular for her expertise in digital assets and trust and estate planning as well as her work with charities.

In addition to drafting wills, setting up trusts and drafting and registering powers of attorney, Louise has a detailed knowledge of complex estate and trust administration and advises on the availability of business property relief, agricultural property relief and other forms of tax planning for individuals, estates and trusts. She also assists personal representatives of estates and trustees on estate and trust administration including preparing deeds to implement changes to existing trusts, deeds of variation, trustee resolutions and trustee minutes.

Louise is a fully qualified member of STEP, the world's leading organisation for private wealth professionals, and belongs to its international working group for digital estate planning. She has been quoted in The Times in an article which highlighted her involvement in this field. 

Recent work highlights

  • Setting up lifetime and complementary trusts in a will for a client to make provision for a second spouse and children from his first marriage. The inheritance tax saving as a result of this planning was approximately £70,000.
  • Advising on a lifetime trust for parents with a mentally disabled child and assisting with financial planning. This included liaising with mental health professionals to ensure the child’s ongoing practical needs were covered.
  • Advising a family on discussions with charities over the provisions of a deceased relative’s will and negotiating with the charities and the Attorney General to save a potentially failed charitable legacy.
  • Writing a toolkit for lawyers covering all aspects of the law on digital estate planning, including privacy, intellectual property, data protection, contract law (ISPs terms of business) and licensing, as well as providing guidance on this field through the STEP digital assets working group.
  • Raising funds for an Oxfordshire-based charity through legacy donations and preparing a document which allows people to leave money to the charity simply and quickly. Other charitable work has included speaking at an event hosted by the Alzheimer's Society on the tax benefits for individuals of donating to charity.
