Josh Hoare

Associate

Josh is an associate in the firm’s shipping team. His work includes advising on a wide range of both dry and wet shipping matters and he has assisted on a range of marine casualty and salvage cases. A particular focus of Josh’s is on disputes arising from the international sale of goods, charterparties, demurrage and off-hire, cargo claims, salvage, wreck removal and collisions.

He also deals with international trade sanctions enquiries and regularly acts for owners, charterers, insurers and salvors, which involves working with the firm’s international offices on a range of matters. Josh acts for clients in High Court and Admiralty Court litigation, The London Maritime Arbitrators Association arbitrations and mediations. He has been involved in multi-jurisdictional proceedings and regularly advises shipowners, charterers, and P&I clubs on a multitude of international disputes.

Having advised on many London Maritime Arbitrators Association matters, from small claims to large marine casualty and multi-party charterparty disputes, I know that being able to understand each client’s unique commercial needs in the shipping environment is key to finding a way to promptly resolve disputes.

Josh also has experience working for banks and financial institutions in multi-jurisdictional trade and commodity disputes. Having been based in Greece for more than one and a half years, Josh has experience working with owners and P&I clubs in the Greek market.

Arbitration proceedings

Acting for salvors in the arbitration proceedings that arose out of a wreck removal contract for a major international casualty.

Charterparty dispute

Representing head-owners in a charterparty dispute relating to damage to deck cargo totalling US$15 million under LMAA arbitration.

Collision action

Acting for a number of owners and insurers in a multi-million dollar collision action between three vessels in the Suez Canal.

Assignment of receivables

Acting for a trade finance bank to recover US$18 million due under an assignment of receivables arising out of a sale of oil.

Limitation proceedings

Advising owners and insurers of M/Y ‘BIG KAHUNA’ in limitation proceedings defending a forum non-conveniens claim.

Salvage claim

Acting for salvors in a salvage claim regarding the re-floating of a large bulk carrier after a grounding in the Baltic.
