Profile

Susie is an associate in the contentious private client team. She acts for both claimants and defendants in relation to a variety of contentious trust and probate matters, including challenges to the validity of wills, claims made under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975, estate administration disputes, and claims concerning the beneficial ownership of property. 

She also specialises in contentious Court of Protection matters and advises attorneys, deputies and other concerned parties in relation to disputes regarding individuals who lack mental capacity and their best interests; for example, cases concerning financial abuse and disputes regarding powers of attorney. 

Recognised in The Legal 500 for her contentious trust and estate work, Susie is described as ‘excellent…performing well beyond her years’; for her Court of Protection work, she is quoted as being ‘a brilliant Court of Protection lawyer. She is excellent with clients and extremely intelligent and efficient.’ Susie is an associate member of the Association of Contentious Trust and Probate Specialists (ACTAPS) and a member of ConTrA, a network for contentious trusts associates.

Recent work highlights

  • Successfully bringing a claim in the High Court for the removal of the personal representative of a client’s late mother’s estate as a result of delay and misconduct in the administration.
  • Acting for the executor of an estate in a challenge to the validity of various lifetime gifts, including cheques gifting substantial sums of money.
  • Representing the partner of a protected party in a dispute with their sister, successfully obtaining declarations from the Court of Protection confirming the party’s capacity to marry and an order for them to reside with the client.
  • Acting for the ex-wife of the deceased in her capacity as executor and sole beneficiary of the estate in defending a claim brought by the deceased’s co-habiting partner and settling the claim at mediation.
