Areas of expertise: Private client and tax


Edward is an associate in the private client team in London, advising on a range of private client matters including tax planning, wills, trusts, and international tax issues.

He has a particular interest in the use of corporate structures as a means of long-term estate planning and the availability of business relief (formerly known as business property relief) as a means of inheritance tax planning. Edward also works closely with the charities team in relation to existing charitable clients and individuals who wish to establish new charities.

Edward studied history at Royal Holloway, University of London. After graduating he completed the Graduate Diploma in Law and the Legal Practice Course, obtaining a distinction in both. He qualified as a solicitor in 2017 and joined Penningtons Manches Cooper in 2019 from another London law firm. Edward is an associate member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and is currently studying towards his diploma in UK tax and estate planning.

Recent work highlights

  • Advising on the restructuring of a £100 million offshore trust structure, including providing advice on the application, and mitigation, of non-resident capital gains tax.
  • Providing UK tax advice on the transfer of an owner managed business to the next generation, including advice on the availability of both business relief for inheritance tax and business asset disposal relief (formerly known as entrepreneurs’ relief) for capital gains tax.
  • Establishing family investment companies for high-net worth clients, including advising on the scope and extent of UK tax and on the ongoing management of such structures.
  • Advising non-domiciled clients on the acquisition of UK property and the tax consequences of owning property, as well as the tax implications of bringing money into the UK to finance the acquisition.
  • Advising international clients on UK tax and all aspects of pre-arrival planning.
