Profile

Angela is a solicitor advocate in the employment team in London and a member of the public law and pensions sub group. She advises individuals and staff associations on a range of contentious matters and has particular expertise in judicial review, regulatory and civil claims against police forces, such as data protection and false imprisonment matters.

She develops good relationships with her clients through her determined and reasoned approach to their cases. Frequently acting on the most complex issues, she has an aptitude for tailoring her advice on difficult matters of law and procedure to each client’s particular needs.

Prior to joining Penningtons Manches Cooper from a national firm in 2019, Angela had a broad legal practice in which she often acted to secure the rights of vulnerable individuals.

Recent work highlights

  • Acting in a judicial review on behalf of a claimant whose widow’s pension was stopped by a police force which had decided she was no longer eligible. Under the settlement her pension recommenced and her back-pay was fully recovered.
  • Representing claimants through to the Court of Appeal in a test case of national importance regarding police pensions and state benefits.
  • Acting on behalf of a police officer who was unlawfully detained at his own police station and investigated by colleagues while he was on duty.
  • Acting on behalf of a number of police officers who were injured on duty in a judicial review against a police force which has unlawfully reduced their injury pensions.
  • Representing an ill-health retired police officer whose medical data is being unlawfully retained by a police force.
