Profile

Andrew is an associate in the shipping team in our London office specialising in shipping and commercial dispute resolution. His expertise covers a wide range of maritime and trade-related matters including charterparty, bill of lading and other contractual disputes. He also has experience of dealing with marine casualties, ship arrests, asset recovery in the context of fraud and cyber-crime, and shareholder disputes, as well as complex high-value ship construction disputes on behalf of shipyards and buyers. 

Prior to training and qualifying with a well-known specialist City shipping firm, Andrew worked for several years in the claims team of an international group P&I insurer. He is familiar with marine insurance policy terms and practice and has an appreciation of client needs having worked client-side with most of the shipping firms in London.

Andrew has a law degree (LLB) from the University of Nottingham and completed his Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in London.

  • Part of the legal team acting for slot-charterer interests in connection with a container ship that sunk following an explosion and fire on board.
  • Advising a ship-owner in connection with fraudulent misappropriate of funds to obtain Norwich Pharmacal relief and a substantial recovery.
  • Assisting in an appeal in the Supreme Court concerning safe port obligations.
  • Acting in appeals and challenges of arbitration awards in the High Court.
  • Acted for the successful buyer against a shipyard in connection with delay and quality problems.
  • Part of the legal team defending a shipyard against a buyer which terminated a contract to construct a complex offshore construction vessel.
