Profile

Sarah is a senior associate in the private client team, specialising in contentious trusts and probate. She has over 10 years of experience in this area of work, having advised on a wide range of domestic and international estate and trust litigation including will validity disputes, claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975, validity of lifetime transactions, disputes between executors and/or personal representatives and claims based upon estoppel and/or constructive trusts. 

Sarah also advises on contentious applications in the Court of Protection. In addition, she has experience in dealing with disputes involving ashes, burials and DNA.

Having qualified in 2010 at a leading private client firm, Sarah first joined Penningtons Manches Cooper in 2015 and then returned to the team in 2020. She is a full member of the Association of Contentious Trust and Probate Specialists (ACTAPS). 

Recent work highlights

  • Acting alongside the McKenzie Friend of the successful defendant in the widely reported case of Shapton v Seviour in March 2020, which was determined at trial.
  • Representing a client in connection with her father’s estate after her father’s partner attempted to arrange his funeral without authority.
  • Acting for siblings in a proprietary estoppel claim in relation to a family friend’s estate and securing a large proportion of the estate at mediation.
  • Challenging the validity of a trust deed in an estate with estate property in both the UK and Greece.
