Profile

Peter is a consultant to the corporate team having previously been a partner at Manches LLP for 39 years, prior to his appointment as a consultant to that firm in 2010. Peter sits as the external member on the University of Oxford’s Conflict of Interest Committee.

As a partner, Peter handled a wide range of transactional corporate work, as well as frequently advising on corporate governance issues and shareholder disputes. He was consistently rated in The Legal 500 and Chambers UK directories as one of the leading corporate lawyers in the South East region.

Peter developed a substantial practice in the insurance industry over a period of 15 years from the mid 1980s, particularly in the Lloyd’s market where he became a leading adviser in the corporate and regulatory aspects of Lloyd’s underwriting agencies and brokers. He now focuses on corporate work across a broad range of clients, in both the public and private sectors, with particular emphasis on technology and publishing clients.

Recent work highlights

  • Acting for the Central Laboratory of the Research Councils on its joint venture with the Wellcome Trust for the development and operation of the £235 million Diamond Synchratron facility at Harwell.
  • Advising the colleges of the University of Oxford in establishing the Isis Colleges Fund, a venture capital vehicle to finance spin out companies.
  • Acting for Oxford University Press on a number of acquisitions of publishing businesses and titles, including the Grove Dictionaries.
  • Advising the shareholders of Rowse Honey Limited on the sale of the company to Wellness Foods.
  • Advising the entire Lloyd’s agency market on the structuring and implementation of the £3.2 billion global settlement of litigation with Lloyd’s names.
