Penningtons Manches reinforces US links at American Association for Justice annual convention

Posted: 26/08/2014

Penningtons Manches personal injury and travel law partner Warren Collins has recently returned from the annual convention of the American Association for Justice (AAJ), formerly the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, where 3,000 lawyers gathered in Baltimore, Maryland, for four days of networking, education, and advocacy updates, as well as several opportunities for community service and outreach.

Warren represents both UK visitors to the United States and American visitors to this country who have been injured, whether by accident, assault or medical malpractice, on their travels. He is an active member of the AAJ and past co-chair of its International Practice Section.

The central focus of the convention is on education and information sharing and over the four days Warren attended several of the 230 seminars and education programmes on offer so that he can bring the latest skills and strategies to the clients of Penningtons Manches. Convention attendees were taught cutting-edge legal strategy, brushed up on advocacy skills, and learned about the status, trends, and verdicts in various areas such as motor vehicle, trucking, nursing home, traumatic brain injury, and testosterone therapy litigation, among others.

Warren, who specialises in catastrophic injuries, was the founding co-chair of AAJ’s Spinal Cord Injury Litigation Group. The group was delighted to host the Dana and Christopher Reeve Foundation whose members gave a fascinating presentation on the latest research in pursuing new treatments for paraplegia and quadriplegia.

The five hour time difference and waking up early worked to Warren’s advantage as he was able to attend the Litigation at Sunrise sessions which started at 6.30 in the morning. But there were no early nights to compensate for the long days. In order to maximise the benefits of convention attendance, Warren spent time networking with key contacts from all over the United States (and beyond) at the numerous receptions and parties.

Commenting on the 2014 programme, Warren said: "Our attendance at this important convention means that we are able to cement our relationships and forge links with several leading law firms across the United States to ensure that Penningtons Manches can continue to offer a seamless legal service when dealing with Anglo-American travel claims."
