Penningtons Manches collects stories and music for Harry's Audio Library

Penningtons Manches partner Julie Bond and associate Max Windich have been co-ordinating the collection of CDs from around the firm’s office network over the last few weeks to donate to Harry’s Audio Library.

Jill Wilson helped to set up an audio library for cancer patients in Oxford in memory of her late husband, Harry Wilson, who spent many months receiving cancer treatment at the Churchill Hospital, Oxford.

Jill explains: “Harry needed something to occupy his mind and I came to realise how audio facilities could comfort and ease the ordeals of patients and their families. When you are very ill, you don’t have the power of concentration to focus on words on paper. Sometimes you don’t even have the strength to hold a book and yet you badly need something to occupy the mind. To lose yourself in a beautiful piece of music or in a well-read book is a magical thing and can alleviate some of the fears, anxiety  and boredom.”

Thanks to Jill’s hard work, Harry’s Library now offers audio books and music to patients across the Oxford Cancer and Haematology Centre and welcomes donations to ensure the library is kept topped up with a wide range of genres.

Jill added: “I am very grateful for this kind donation of audio books from Pennington Manches and know they will bring much comfort to many patients.”

Some of the firm’s contributors are pictured here with a selection of the CDs presented to Sarah Vaccari of Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals Charitable Funds.

Donations to help equip the audio library should be made via ORH Charitable Funds, tel 01865 743444 or visit www.hospitalcharity.co.uk
