Penningtons harmonises with London Community Gospel Choir at Guildford International Music Festival

Penningtons Solicitors LLP has lent its support to one of the headline acts of this year’s Guildford International Music Festival.

The firm’s Surrey offices sponsored The London Community Gospel Choir’s spectacular concert in a packed Guildford Cathedral on Friday 15 March. During the evening, the choir, which is frequently described as ‘the nation’s favourite choir’ and has sung with James Brown, Sir Elton John and Sir Paul McCartney, to name but a few international stars, presented a varied programme of gospel greats, ranging from Amazing Grace to When the Saints Go Marching In. Members of the audience, which included the Mayor of Guildford, Councillor Jennifer Jordan, showed their appreciation by singing and dancing to the choir's uplifting tunes.

The evening provided an opportunity for Penningtons to reinforce its links with the University of Surrey, a long-standing client, which manages the music festival in conjunction with Guildford Borough Council. It also marked the latest in a series of CSR related projects undertaken by the firm in association with the university. In addition to supporting a music student, the firm has recently renewed its sponsorship of Surrey Sports Park, an agreement which includes a pledge to back sport for all ages at the complex.

Commenting on the festival, David Kendall, a partner in the corporate team at Penningtons’ Guildford office, said: “We have been delighted to be associated with one of the most prestigious parts of Guildford’s cultural calendar. Sponsoring the event has enabled us to demonstrate our commitment to Guildford as we celebrate the anniversary of the opening of our office in the town centre. We were particularly keen to support the London Community Gospel Choir concert following the group’s outstanding performance when it previously attended the festival. Its lively and varied programme on 15 March again displayed stunning vocal harmonies, providing something for everyone within the inspiring setting of Guildford Cathedral.”
