Gemma Bell to speak at Housing Governance 2021

Posted: 19/05/2021

Gemma Bell, a partner and governance specialist in Penningtons Manches Cooper’s highly regarded social housing team, is to speak at the National Housing Federation’s Governance virtual conference next month.

In a session chaired by the National Housing Federation’s Head of Governance and Compliance, Paul Bayly, she will join Sasha Deepwell, the Chief Executive of Irwell Valley Homes and Kate Foley, Housing and Customer Services Director of The Pioneer Group, to explore the importance of collaboration in mobilising and anchoring communities.

The discussion will cover:

  • understanding the new operating environment: what are the drivers for greater collaboration and how to mobilise and empower communities;
  • the spectrum of collaboration models and additional due diligence considerations; and
  • harnessing the power of collaboration and a shared sense of purpose to achieve collective wins.

Gemma commented: “Now more than ever, fostering better and more effective collaboration is a prominent item on governance professionals’ to-do lists. The pandemic, in particular, has highlighted what can be achieved through working together and has emphasised the important role housing associations have to play as community anchors. Both Sasha and Kate have some great insights to share on the dos and don’ts of collaboration and we hope this session will provide some useful guidance and practical take-aways that can be applied within communities to benefit all stakeholders.”

Rose Klemperer, Senior Associate, will also be delivering a pre-recorded session with top tips on good governance in a digital world.

The conference, which takes place online on 17 June, is the only dedicated governance event in the sector and attracts over 300 housing governance professionals. It aims to support attendees in the development of skills and knowledge to better prepare for the future. This year’s event will include an additional emphasis on how organisations across the sector are responding to the challenges of the pandemic.
