Sarah is a senior knowledge lawyer for the employment team based in London. She has 25 years’ experience across a broad range of employment matters, acting for both employees and employers in a variety of sectors including financial services, technology and the public sector, and has a particular interest in issues relating to diversity, equality and inclusion.

For the past 15 years Sarah has focussed on knowledge management with an employment focus, and is responsible for the implementation, management and monitoring of strategic knowledge services with the employment team. Sarah supports and promotes the work of the employment team through drafting precedents, keeping the team and its clients up to date on developing areas of the law, and harnessing new technology and ways of working to deliver an efficient and effective service. In addition, Sarah manages the team’s content strategy and regularly writes articles for client publications. She also writes and delivers content for internal and external training programmes.

I have always loved the broad spectrum of employment law and that it is a fast-moving area of the law which has a real and direct impact on people’s lives. Since 2010 I have been lucky enough to combine my passion for employment law with my keen interest in knowledge management and legal technology.

Sarah is a senior knowledge lawyer in the real estate team with more than 20 years of commercial property expertise. She drives knowledge development and supports the work of the firm’s commercial real estate team.

She assists the team on complex transactional points and provides technical training on the latest legal developments. Sarah is also responsible for reviewing the latest legal tech tools, to increase efficiency within the team, and help deliver excellent client service. As part of the wider best practice group, she champions knowledge initiatives across the firm.

Sarah Brimacombe, Senior knowledge lawyer

As well as having more than 15 years’ experience in real estate knowledge management, Sarah has experience of developing e-learning resources for real estate lawyers with a leading online legal knowledge provider. Before becoming a knowledge lawyer, she spent several years as a transactional real estate lawyer at a City law firm, where her clients included investors, developers, lenders, asset managers, and retail tenants. Sarah is a member of the Property Support Lawyers Group.

Chris Ward

Knowledge lawyer

Chris is a knowledge lawyer who supports the firm’s marine, trade and aviation teams, with responsibilities that include the organisation of training for fee earners, and drafting and maintaining the department’s precedent documentation.

He specialises in the shipping and insurance sectors and has experience across a broad range of charter party and bill of lading disputes and maritime incidents. Chris frequently advises on matters of disputed hire and demurrage, stevedore damage, force majeure, cargo damage and shortage, speed and performance, collisions and groundings. His instructions include a piratical cargo theft, a bill of lading fraud, the termination of a pool agreement involving an extensive bunker consumption reporting fraud, a series of container floods and fires, and toppled container stacks. Chris has seen cases through arbitration and English and foreign proceedings. His areas of particular expertise include liquid cargo claims, unsafe ports, and the developing field of electronic bills of lading.

As a seasoned litigator, I am often relied on as a sounding board by members of our shipping and aviation teams. I provide our lawyers with supporting precedents and case authorities, and ensure that they are kept abreast of cutting-edge developments in the law.

Chris joined Penningtons Manches Cooper in 2022 having spent 12 years in other maritime litigation roles. He has worked with another leading UK shipping law firm, and in-house at both an International Group P&I club and a commercial marine insurer. Chris regularly lectures and writes for the legal press.

Sarah is a senior knowledge lawyer for the private client department based in London. She has extensive experience of dealing with all aspects of private client work, including a particular focus on high-net-worth clients and estate planning advice.

She is responsible for the implementation, management and monitoring of strategic knowledge services within the private client department. Sarah facilitates knowledge sharing through drafting precedents, providing advice and research on complex, technical legal issues, and identifying important legal developments for dissemination and discussion. She regularly chairs, writes content for, and speaks at internal training events, both for her department and across the firm.

Sarah Robinson, Senior knowledge lawyer

A member and vice-chair of the Law Society’s private client section, Sarah has helped to chair, speak at and attend several of the excellent events provided by the section. She is also certified as a legal project practitioner with the Institute of Legal Management. She uses her LPM skills to initiate and manage efficiency projects and tech tool developments within the department. Sarah joined the firm in 2015 and has over 20 years of experience in delivering private client knowledge services and solutions to firms in London and the South East.

Georgina is a knowledge lawyer in the IP, IT and commercial team. She has a broad range of experience in commercial law, IP, IT, data protection, and the technology and life sciences sectors, and supports and promotes the work of the team through knowledge development.

The focus of Georgina’s role is on supporting the IP, IT and commercial team, and both the life sciences and digital business sector teams, by ensuring that they are on top of the latest legal developments and changes in legal practice. She develops and delivers knowhow and training for clients and her team, as well as cross-collaborating with other teams across the firm. She also works with the best practice team to share best practice and knowledge and improve firm processes and technology solutions, to enable teams to work more efficiently and to deliver a best-in-class service for clients.

My role focuses on capturing, generating and sharing knowledge both to our teams in knowhow sessions and to our clients in legal training, industry events, insights and content generation. I am also part of our best practice team, helping to deliver best practice firmwide.

Georgina Mercer, Knowledge lawyer

Georgina’s particular interest in life sciences and innovation stems from her experience working in-house in these sectors and coming from a biomedical science background. As well as editing legal resources, she is involved in developing insights and horizon scanning for the latest trends and analysis, as well as in coaching and mentoring junior lawyers.

Beth is a knowledge lawyer in the family team, based in London. She has experience of all aspects of private family work, including divorce and financial matters, arrangements for children, cohabitation disputes, and nuptial agreements, having advised individuals for 13 years.

Since joining the firm in 2022, Beth has supported the family team by ensuring they are kept up to date with legal current awareness and latest developments, drafting precedents and client guides, and providing technical assistance and legal research on complex issues. She is a member of the Family Knowledge Lawyer Network, as well as Resolution, an organisation which promotes a constructive approach to resolving family law matters, where she sits on its practice standards panel.

I am a family lawyer as well as a knowledge lawyer. These days, my department colleagues are my clients, and I use my years of experience advising on family law issues to support them and provide them with efficient processes and tools, as well as technical expertise and strategic advice.

Jenna is a knowledge lawyer in the commercial dispute resolution team in Oxford and London. She facilitates knowledge sharing within the department by organising training, writing articles, drafting precedents, and helping to implement strategy.

As a litigator in the team, Jenna specialises in group actions and professional negligence. As a knowledge lawyer, she practises general commercial litigation, with particular expertise in civil procedure, legal technology, and innovation. Jenna also works with the firm’s best practice and central teams to improve firmwide processes and systems. She qualified into the commercial disputes team in 2018 after joining the firm as a trainee solicitor in 2016. Prior to this, she worked as a knowledge management paralegal in professional and financial disputes at an international law firm.

My aim as a knowledge lawyer is to ensure that our solicitors are equipped with all the information, resources and technologies they need to provide exceptional client service.
