Meeting the standards - regulatory requirements for local authority registered providers

Event date: 15/10/20
Location: Webinar

Stock-owning local authorities are now in the regulatory spotlight more than ever. The Regulator of Social Housing (RSH) wrote to chief executives of stock-owning local authorities last year to remind them of their obligations under the Consumer Standards, with a particular focus on the expectations of the Home Standard in relation to health and safety.

In August 2020 it came to light that the RSH had written to 18% of Registered Providers of Social Housing about rent setting issues in the last financial year. This follows the introduction of a complex rent-setting regime under the new Rent Standard in April 2020 that, for the first time, applies to stock-owning local authorities.

With the level of regulatory engagement and focus shifting, what can stock-owning local authorities expect moving forward in terms of key risks and areas for consideration?

In this webinar, Gemma Bell, a partner in our social housing team and leader of our housing corporate and governance team, and Aaron Keyte, an associate director in housing consultancy at Savills and former senior financial analysis manager at the RSH, will explore:

  • The requirements of the Rent Standard 2020 and their application to stock-owning local authorities;
  • What compliance with the Consumer Standards, and in particular the Home Standard, should look like;
  • Common pitfalls and risks to avoid in complying with the Regulatory Standards;
  • What regulation looks like for local authorities in the “new normal”; and
  • Key risks and areas of regulatory focus for councillors of local authorities to consider going forward.

We hope you can join us for this free webinar.
