SPORTS UPDATE

SEPTEMBER 2019

Welcome
by Andrew Haywood

We are delighted that the recent merger of Penningtons Manches with Thomas Cooper to form Penningtons Manches Cooper has expanded and further strengthened our dynamic, multidisciplinary sports team.  We welcome employment partner Nick Humphreys and commercial dispute resolution partner James Severn who bring with them a depth of experience and expertise, specialising in the football arena.

In this Sports Update we explore the opportunities e-sports offer real estate investors; comment on the wide-reaching effects that copyright infringement can have on sponsorship and licencing arrangements; and discuss how Nike fell foul of European Commission regulations on the cross-border sale of football team merchandise. Our ‘practical alphabet’ rounds up the broad range of sports law areas that our lawyers deal with on a regular basis.
